Birdhouses/Bird-Feeders/Birdbaths

Dedicated to our Feathered Friends!

Dark birdhouse Let's shake the feeder a bit

Birdhouses/Bird-Feeders/Birdbaths are just a few ways we can say thank you to our feathered friends for adding such joy to our lives.

If you're like most gardeners, hearing the birds sing and flutter around in your garden or seeing a hummingbird magically perched on your beautiful flowering plants or hovering around your hummingbird feeder is one of the greatest delights in being outdoors. Be sure not to miss the video on these delightful creatures at the bottom of this page!

There are so many possibilities! Birdhouses, bird feeders and birdbaths are not only practical for feeding, watering and providing shelter from the elements and raising their young ... they are also delightful and charming garden accents.

Birdhouses

There are endless styles and types of birdhouses available today: decorative, a bird feeder house, rustic, wooden, gourd, and fancy and unique painted and decorated birdhouses limited only by the imagination. There are also some interesting specialty ones - hummingbird houses, purple martin birdhouses, bluebird houses, etc. Here are some great examples you may want for your own garden.

Many bird enthusiasts believe that decorative ones will detract birds. Here's proof that this is not always the case! And while this may sometimes be true with certain types of birds, I have a neighbor who has an adorable decorative bird hotel in her backyard, and there's never a vacancy! And why limit yourself? As long as you follow the rules for safety and comfort, you can have several of both kinds.

For more detailed information on how to select and care for your own birdhouse, here's a featured article I wrote for Ezine Articles.

If you're creative and handy you can purchase bird house kits or birdhouse plans-blueprints for making your own birdhouse.

    Birdbaths

I don't think you can have a beautiful landscape design without at least one birdbath. They add such charm to your garden -- especially when they're in use! And it's a very kind deed as well, to provide soothing cool water for our feathered friends to bathe and play in, and get a clean drink of water when they visit your house.

As in bird feeders, there are lots of choices in both material and design. Here are some examples of both:

  • bronze
  • concrete
  • antique cast iron
  • copper
  • plaster
  • vertigris (greenish metal)
  • ceramic
  • mosaic/tile
  • table-top baths
  • baths with solar lamps
  • birdbaths with fountains
  • window-mounted birdbaths
