My greatest passion in life is the flower garden. Since I was a small child, I've been in awe of the beauty of flowers. I would walk through our alley and reach through to neighbor's gardens to bring some to my mother, because I couldn't think of a greater gift. Of course, my mom had to show me there were more appropriate places to get her presents, but that's another story!
Later in life when I began to design my own landscape, I started to appreciate all the other elements of garden design, but none so much as flowers and beautiful flower gardens.
From enjoying elegant formal and public gardens to tiny cottage ones in front of the simplest of homes, there's no greater celebration of life than gardens. Some people think gardening is boring, but nothing is further from the truth. It's extremely satisfying and rewarding to simply plant some tiny seeds or bedding plants and have your landscape explode into color!
I will be highlighting some of my favorite flower bed designs here as well as some of my individual favorites, and will be building some pages on some of the most famous and well-known gardens of the world. I hope you will find them educational as well as inspirational. If you know of any near your area that you'd like to share with the world, send 'em on. I'll put them right here on my site for you.
I'd love to hear from you on which you like best and see some pictures of some of your favorite flowers and personal gardens as well. Just use the "Contact Me" form on the front page of my site to email me. I'd be delighted to hear from you!
One of the most important things in designing your own flower garden as mentioned elsewhere on this site is balance. If you don't balance out your colors and the sizes and types of flowers, it can look like you threw a handfull of seeds in your yard and weeds have come up!
What you want -- even if you like a natural look -- is eye-popping groups of brilliant color, and not too many mixes of color in the same bed. Balance is important in any overall landscape, but it is more important than ever in your flower gardens. So plan carefully and sit back and enjoy the compliments!
